Tuesday, March 21: American Abstract Expressionism: Explore America’s first modern art movement through the New York scene with the likes of Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, and more. The lecture will end with Clyfford Still, who left NYC to reside in the rural quiet of Carroll County.
Tuesday, April 18: The Women of Abstract Expressionism: Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Elaine de Kooning, Grace Hartigan, Perle Fine, Judith Godwin, Mary Abbott and more formed the female backbone of the movement. Explore their relationships with their male counterparts and the development of their styles.
Tuesday, May 23: Artists and Muses; Artists and Wives: Many of our famous artists such as Pablo Picasso and Alfred Stieglitz, had very strong female creative forces behind their work. Some became lovers, others became wives. Learn more about these interesting relationships from which some of our best loved artworks were created.
Cost for all three sessions is $15 or $8 for a single session for CLV residents or members of the Carroll County Arts Council. $18 for the series or $8 per single session for non-residents and non-members.
