January 28, 2016 – The 2016 Great Decisions program began on January 28 at Carroll Lutheran Village with a look at the Middle East and Syria. Dr. Anouar Boukars, assistant professor of international relations at McDaniel College and a non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, spoke on the topic.
Great Decisions is a national program produced by the American Foreign Policy Association, which seeks to convey a clear understanding of current worldwide issues that impact the United States. A different topic is featured each week for eight weeks through a combination of lecture, video and question and answer sessions.
The program is co-hosted locally by Carroll Lutheran Village and sponsored by the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. This year about 130 participants from the greater community as well as Carroll Lutheran Village are participating. Additional topics include ISIS, migration, Kurdistan, the Koreas, the United Nations, climate change, and the relationship between Cuba and the United Stated.
