May 9, 2017 – The 20th Annual Celebrate Ministry Awards Program recognizing outstanding Lutheran lay ministry in the Delaware-Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was held on April 30, 2017 at Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster. A total of 15 awards were presented by the Synod Bishop, the Rev. William Gohl.
Social Ministry Organization Award
Marion Suski, a member of St. Benjamin Lutheran Church in Westminster, was honored with a Social Ministry Organization Award for her more than 20 years of volunteerism with Carroll Lutheran Village. She has served as an ambassador for the former Friends of the Village Auxiliary, as well as serving as its membership chair and co-chair of the annual auction, Winter Games and spaghetti dinner committees, and volunteering on a number of other committees and fundraisers. Suski also served on the Village Board of Trustees from 1999 through 2002, chairing the ethics committee and serving on the fund development and human resources committees, and most recently gave significant effort to the Village gift shops.
Significant Lay Ministry Award
Lynn Sheavly, Executive Director of the North East Social Action Program, was honored with a Significant Lay Ministry Award for her faithful leadership of the organization and the impact it makes in the community. NESAP is a Christian nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for rent, fuel, utilities, transportation, clothing, food, and other necessities to those with need in Carroll County and parts of Baltimore County. A member of Christ Lutheran Church in Upperco, Sheavly has served as Executive Director of NESAP since 2011.
