Heuer Art Studio Dedicated
May 31, 2016 – Residents of Carroll Lutheran Village have a new, dedicated art room thanks to a gift in memory of two residents. The Heuer Art Studio, located in the former pharmacy space in the 205 St. Mark Way building, provides storage space for art supplies and works in progress, display areas, work space, and a wall of windows for natural light among other amenities for resident artists.
The room was gifted to the Village by the family of Eleanor “Elly” and August “Gus” Heuer. Originally from Long Island, New Jersey, Elly and Gus moved to Carroll Lutheran Village in 2002 to be closer to daughter Lorraine and granddaughter Hannah. Gus died in 2004, just before the couple’s 55th wedding anniversary. Elly found solace in her painting and with fellow artists before she died in 2014.
Studio Dedication
The Heuer Art Studio was formally dedicated on May 28 with a wine and cheese reception. Daughters Eleanor Incalcaterra and Lorraine Harbold, as well as granddaughter Hannah Harbold, were on hand to unveil the plaque featuring Elly’s work that welcomes artists into the studio. Pastor David Schafer from St. Benjamin Lutheran Church in Westminster performed the dedication prayer.
Director of Resident Life Laura Sinnott wondered what Elly and Gus Heuer would think of the new space given in their honor: “I believe they would be humbled by the honor, moved to tears by the love shown by their family and pleased that so many residents now have a dedicated space in which to express their artistic selves.”
