First COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Results in 272

Carroll Lutheran Village had its first COVID-19 vaccination clinic on campus on Jan. 11, resulting in 272 individuals being vaccinated.

“Many of our residents and team members had been looking forward to the clinic, and it’s great to see such a large turnout,” stated John B. Henry, Executive Director of Carroll Lutheran Village. “CLV has been and is continuing to diligently practice COVID-19 safety protocols.  This is another step towards making our campus safer and allowing our community to come together in the way to which they are accustomed,” stated Henry.

Walgreens administered the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to assisted living and the Health Care Center’s residents and team members, including those in long-term care and skilled nursing units, in accordance with the state’s distribution plan. Phase 1A of the state’s distribution plan includes vaccine distribution to residents and staff of long-term care facilities as well as health care workers and first responders.

Individuals received the vaccine in the muscle of the upper arm and were then monitored for 15 minutes. The two-dose vaccine is given three weeks apart. CLV’s follow-up clinic is schedule for Monday, Feb. 1.

Henry stated, “Things went smoothly; it was a great team effort.  I actually didn’t feel it when I received mine.”

Based on evidence from clinical trials, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 95% effective at preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 illness in people without evidence of previous infection. The vaccine is recommended for individuals 16 years and older.

Carroll Lutheran Village, a Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland community, is an accredited, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in Westminster with approximately 700 residents in 398 homes and apartments, 50 assisted living suites and 103 skilled nursing beds in the Health Care Center.
