Social Worker Honored by Hood College

May 1, 2019 – Carroll Lutheran Village social worker Elizabeth Horn has received the Lynda R. Sowbel Social Work Field Instructor of the Year Award from Hood College.  The award was presented April 30 at the college’s annual senior night.

Horn, who is Director of Social Work, has hosted social work interns from Hood College for many years.  The interns work two days a week for a full academic year.  “It’s a great program,” said Horn.  “They treat it like a real job.”  The interns are given hands-on responsibility with residents in the independent living setting as well as in assisted living and skilled care.

Horn has more than 30 years of social work experience and currently oversees social work services for nearly 700 residents at Carroll Lutheran Village.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Frostburg State University and a master’s degree in social work with a certificate in aging from the University of Maryland Baltimore.  She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

Carroll Lutheran Village is an accredited, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community in Westminster with approximately 700 residents in 398 homes and apartments, 50 assisted living suites in the Diven House and 103 skilled nursing beds in the Health Care Center.
